The Intensive Series is FlowerSchool’s most popular program for individuals wanting to learn how to work with flowers like a professional designer. You will learn how to create modern designs like Master Florist Michael George and classic designs like Master Florist Remco Van Vliet of the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art. This program is a combination of the Introductory Series and the Intermediate Series that encompasses the basics of all you need to know to be a professional florist.
The Advanced Design Series follows the Intensive Series where students learn more advanced techniques, and begin to develop their own style of floral design. Students will learn four new design mechanics and will learn how to differentiate between different design styles including organic, classic and modern. Each student will also be responsible for creating a concept and design, picking their own color palette for each instructional technique, and selecting their own flowers to best fit their concept.
Our Advanced Wedding Series focuses on advanced skills for the wedding market. It presupposes knowledge of certain techniques such as proper flower processing, basic arranging and familiarity with the florist’s knife, as gained through FSLA’s Intensive Series. The Wedding Series includes step-by-step instruction of five wedding-specific design skills including: handwiring individual flowers for boutonnieres and head wreaths; large scale designs for ceremony decor; elevated centerpiece designs for the reception and the decoration of a Chuppah and flowering arch. Our students walk away form The Advanced Wedding Series with a great understanding of the most important wedding mechanics and designs!
Summer Robbins will be our guest instructor for the November 12th & 13th & January 28th & 29th programs.
In this three-day course, students will learn the full process of creating the overall event design for a special event with a wedding as the sample. Beginning with making storyboards, students will receive instruction on conducting consultations and creating proposals, learning how to purchase floral products and then creating the mock-execution of the event’s designs. Each student is required to develop their own floral designs based on specific client requests. The course finishes with a mockup table decor and presentation to the “client.” This is a great opportunity for florists and event planners to practice event production with the constraints of specific client requests and budgets.
This course is taught by the talented FlowerSchool staff designers and instructors in conjunction with some of the most accomplished designers in the Wedding and Events industry in the Los Angeles area and beyond. The class includes a guided buying trip to the Los Angeles Flower Market. We encourage (but do not require) students to bring a laptop or tablet so that they may compile images and information digitally to create storyboards and proposals for their “client.”
In this class, FlowerSchool Operations Director Tom Sebenius will take students through the stages of planning a funeral using flowers as the medium to soothe and comfort the bereaved. Reviewing funeral traditions and treatments from around the world, this class will focus on the meaning of sympathy flowers in a non-cliched approach demonstrating how flowers can send a powerful message during a difficult time.
